The Tata Tiago EV does exactly what India's EV market needed in 2022 and continues to do well in 2025: it makes electric driving affordable, practical, and backed by a brand with the service reach to support buyers across the country. It is not trying to be a feature-loaded premium product — it is trying to be the most sensible first EV for Indian families, and it succeeds. The 315 km ARAI range on the Long Range variant is genuinely impressive for Rs. 11–12 lakh. The 8-year battery warranty removes the biggest financial fear of EV ownership. The running cost of under Rs. 1 per km versus Rs. 4+ for petrol builds a compelling ownership case. The gaps — no DC fast charging, small boot, no ADAS, no sunroof — are real but they are also deliberate cost decisions that keep the price accessible. If your daily driving is under 80 km and you can charge at home, the Tiago EV is the most rational electric car purchase in India today.

Against the MG Comet EV (Rs. 7–8 lakh, ~230 km ARAI): the Comet is slightly cheaper but significantly smaller — 2-door, 2+2 seating, city-only. The Tiago EV is a proper 5-seat hatchback with genuine highway capability. Against the upcoming Maruti Alto EV (rumored, sub-Rs. 5 lakh): if it arrives with 150 km range, the Tiago EV's 315 km and 5-seat practicality will justify the price gap for most buyers.
